A closer look at a competitor's installation reveals -

Mounting feet are installed at various angles, and the array is twisted such that each end of this array is 20mm different in height when measured vertically from the roof.

Whilst there is silicone sealant applied to the top of the fixing screw and the top edge of the foot where it meets the roof sheet, there is no sealant or gasket between the Aluminium foot and the roof sheet to provide a weatherproof seal and galvanic isolation between the dissimilar metals.

Whilst the racking components are certified to AS1170.2, the installation of these components would not comply with that standard.

There are only half as many "L" feet on the rear mounting rail, as would be required to resist pull out of the fasteners from the steel roof battens when wind loads are calculated in accordance with AS1170.2.

No actual performance figures were provided to the customer.

The PV Array isolator was wired in reverse polarity, which creates a serious fire risk (if the isolator were to be opened under load).

Proper commissioning tests would have found this problem, so it is highly likely that the installation was not tested correctly either.

This competitor has regular TV adds selling Grid Connected Solar Power, unfortunately the Quality of their installations leaves a lot to be desired.

What's different with our installation -

A closer look at our installation reveals -

Our array is installed such that all mounting rails are straight.

We use a high temperature Nitrile, Neoprene gasket between the Aluminium foot and the roof sheet to provide a weatherproof seal and galvanic isolation between the dissimilar metals.

We use Sikaflex-Pro,  polyurethane sealant which has superior qualities compared to most silicone sealants.

We use nickel anti-seize on all Stainless Steel bolts to prevent galling, which ensures that bolts are tightened to the appropriate torque (and can be undone if ever required).

We calculate wind loads in accordance with AS1170.2, to ensure that there are enough feet / fasteners to resist pull out from the substrate.

We provide a full performance report based on actual site conditions, taking into account the actual roof orientation, pitch and any shading objects (most sites have morning or afternoon shading).

We have specialised tooling to ensure that our electrical connections are safer.

We test and commission our systems correctly.

It takes more time to do all of this, but the end result is a neater, safer job !
